Super Food Cosmetics
There is a lot of hype building up about using foods in skin care products and utilizing their antioxidant and vitamin properties. This theory makes sense! If you really want beautiful skin, do the same things for your skin that you would do to strengthen your heart, control your weight, lift your mood and live longer and better! You need to exercise regularly, sleep enough and eat well.
The latest research clearly shows how a skin-friendly diet can help your skin build healthy new collagen, improve its elasticity, make your skin look radiant, and even reduce breakouts. Without question the foods we list below, along with exercise, a good skin-care routine, and staying out of the sun, will make a HUGE difference in your appearance!
Examples of skin friendly foods include:
Berries play an important role in your appearance because they are full of antioxidants, which protect your skin from the free radicals that contribute to aging. The darker the berry, the better: blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, raspberries, acai, and strawberries are known to have high concentrations of antioxidants. Fresh is best, but frozen berries are good, too!
Salmon is loaded with omega-3 essential fatty acids and antioxidants, such as astaxanthin. Eating salmon can reduce sun damage, reduce inflammation that leads to collagen breakdown, and help skin look young, plump, and radiant.
- Sweet Potatoes, Fruits, and Leafy Greens
Foods rich in beta carotene have anti-aging benefit because they slow the damage caused by sun exposure. Think sweet potatoes; orange, red, or yellow fruits; vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, and butternut squash; and leafy greens, including kale, spinach, and broccoli. Another great source of antioxidants which most of us eat regularly? Tomatoes!
Why not throw in some flavor to help keep your skin wrinkle-free and younger looking? Add spices like cardamom, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, licorice powder, tamarind, and turmeric to your favorite recipes. These spices have a variety of amazing benefits for skin, including fighting sun damage, and some have antibacterial properties. They’re also a brilliant way to make mundane meals like grilled chicken sizzle with flavor!
- Green Tea
Green tea is an anti-aging superstar well-studied in regard to its antioxidant, collagen-protecting, and anti-inflammatory properties. A cup a day may help keep wrinkles at bay!
With “beauty foods” being touted as an emerging market, one company, called Nextera, has started a beauty line withe super food ingredients that aresure to be a popular skin care product.
One recent example of this is the use of the acai berry in the Elite Brand of products, such as our top-ranked eye serum, the Elite Serum.
Other examples I found that are pegged for use in this product by using what they call Nutrx8Complex, which includes “blueberries, cantaloupe, red grapes, yogurt, honey, figs, walnuts and dark cocoa chocolate, together with the further fortification of vitamin B5, vitamin E, macadamia seed oil, vitamin C, aloe and tea tree oil.”
In similar news, Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda, has stated that he is planning a new line of cosmetic products through his most recent business venture called Intelligent Nutrients.
Due to the fact that this line of products is free of any petrochemicals and will be formulated for the most part with food grade ingredients, this line is quite possibly edible.
Just like in the scenario of the Nextera line, Rechelbacher is also working with food scientists to develop the line of cosmetic products, versus working with personal care formulators.
A 2006 study released by Kline & Company found that the global nutricosmetics market was valued at one billion dollars. This figure is set to double over the next five-year period according to the company.
It will certainly be a fun product release. I plan on providing full reviews of any eye care products, should they be released. If not, I will have general statements and information on this page, so please feel free to bookmark my site and check back often as this is something I surely will not miss out on.
